Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Took my mom to go see it today since we're both huge fans of the original trilogy (The Last Crusade was my favorite), so did the new movie meet my expectations?
Strangely yes, eventhough Indy is now in his late 50's and I didn't think he could still pull it off. There are ties with the previous movies, especially to Raiders of the Lost Ark where Marrion returns (Indy's first love interest) and reveals that Mutt (Shia LaBeouf) the greaser side-kick, is actually his son! My mom figured it out the moment Marrion was revealed. Also when the Soviets leave the military base, one of the crates is smashed open and I believe we see part of the Ark of the Covenant (which was stored away at the end of Raiders).
In the fourth movie, Indy reveals that both Marcus and his dad (Sean Connery as Jones Sr, featured in the Last Crusade) have already died ...which kind of doesn't make sense since both father and son drank from the Holy Grail... and therefore, are immortal.
Like all the Indiana Jones movies there are always a scenes that just makes me squeamish. In Raiders, it was the snake pit. In the Temple of Doom, pretty much everything... the monkey brains probbaly the worst. In The Last Crusade it was the rats. But in the fourth movie, it's the flesh eating ants ::shudder::
The plot: Indiana Jones meets The X-Files... cause it turns out aliens did come to earth long ago and were like gods to the humans who worshipped them. So the crystal skull, is actually an alien skull. And when the thirteenth member's skull is returned, they merge together and the UFO takes off. Indy and company make it back to the USA, where he gets married to Marrion.
At the end of the wedding, a gust of wind causes the famous Indiana Jones' hat to roll over to Mutt, who i about to put it on ... but it's snatched away by Indy, cause it's not ready for Mutt's greaser head until he finishes college... or at least Transformers 2.
