Monday morning

I've been working non-stop for the past three days. First there's work at the office really early in the morning until evening and from there I'm up until past midnight working on final papers and projects for school, then I'm working out doors on the weekend (and it's cold!), then back to the homework and for the past 72 hours I crave nothing except to sleep in on Monday morning. And I did. A lot of sleep. Too much sleep. My head's killing me (like the time my cousin and I finished a whole bottle of Jack Daniels in one night in high school and having to go to class the next day) and I crawl out of bed to hunt down some aspirin...

Only to find out the entire bottle (which is half full) has been expired for the past couple of months.

Screw it. I'm taking it anyway.

Review - Avril Lavignes's Make 5 Wishes

The Unexpected Surprise: I purchased the first volume in a manga lot I won on Ebay, based on the cover, I thought the art work looked a little kiddy and didn't think too much of it as I placed it in a pile of extra books I'll be donating. However, the back of the book caught my attention, a creepy little red demon, that was sitting and staring right back at me. The rating also informed me that this was not a kiddy American manga-styled graphic novel. I started reading, intrigued.

Synopsis: Hana Davis - whom I'm guessing is a pre-teen attending middle school, is a total introvert. She's rather depressed with the way her life is going, she has no friends and her parents are always fighting. Online, she assumes many alter egos and manages to fool her teacher and classmates. The only person who is her anchor, Avril Lavigne, is her imaginary best friend. One day, Hana discovers a website MAKE5WISHES.COM (a real site btw) that promises to change her life forever.

My Thoughts: Ever heard of the 'Monkey Paw' tale? Or the phrase, "Be careful what you wish for, it just might come true"? Naturally Hana's five wishes - carried out by an adorable yet creepy red demon with several horns - are guaranteed to backfire. It's a train wreck and you can't close your eyes.

To be honest, I have no idea who the singer Avril Lavignes was, but I'm pretty sure I probably heard her on the radio a couple times. Nevertheless I thought she was incorporated nicely into the story without taking the focus off of Hana. Connected through music, Avril is Hana's idol, and naturally the image of her imaginary best friend. Avril most likely represents Hana's common sense as she keeps telling Hana that she needs to go out and find her own happiness and leave her shell behind (and most important: to get rid of the freaky demon doll).

I won't spoil the whole store, because it's worth reading. You can story split into 3-5 minute flash slide show episodes (with Avril's music playing in the background... which I end up muting because it gets distracting).

MAKE5WISHES.COM Volume 1 (Episodes 1-11)
YOUTUBE.COM Volume 2 (Episodes 1-15) User Beini89 has them in English and Italian.

This is Halloween!

It was raining today, so I ended up staying home and passing out candy to trick-or-treaters. I think most horror movies start out. Anyway, I was planning to pass out the candy around 7PM and end at 9PM or until all the candy was gone. All of the lights were off, and I was watching television around 6PM. Then I heard the high pitched "HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!" screamed in unison coming from the foyer.

Again, the lights were off and according to the unofficial Halloween rules: no lights, no candy, go away! So at first, I thought they were at my neighbor's house, but then again another: "HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!" ... this time, much louder! I was in shock, thinking, "Oh my god, they're in the house!"

I walked over to foyer and much to my relief, no one had broken in and it was quiet; no knocking, no excessive ringing of the doorbell. Was it just my imagination? Some delusion brought on by (possibly) expired Halloween candy? I took a deep breath, turned on the lights and nearly died at the sight of many children with their scary-child faces pressed up against the glass door! (very much like in the Japanese version of the Grudge, where one girl sees her dead class mates after pulling away newspaper from the windows).

It was not one, or five trick-or-treaters, it was a swarm! In fear that they would break in and wreak havoc over bite-size kit-kats, I opened the door and began to distribute the sweets. They came in all sizes and costumes: transformers, witches, mask-less batmans, angels, cats, and those masked murderers from the SCREAM movies. Three bags of candy was gone at the end up twenty minutes. Gone.

From across the street I saw another parade of children and I quickly turned off the lights, bolted the door, and went upstairs in my room to hide.... or try and beat Kane's bowling score on Facebook.

Happy Halloween! (For the next three minutes anyway.)

I have reached my quota for fucking morons today

ok, starting to hate public transportation today ... got into a fight with some random idiot. was waiting for my bus to take me to another light rail station downtown - and was underneath one of those bus stop bench and shelters, and this couple gets off a bus to wait next to me. well the boyfriend is acting like a moron and his girlfriend tells him to punch the shelter's support post... and he does, and then does it again, and again until the shelter is shaking, and small pieces of the ceiling starts to fall (and i'm under it).

GIRLFRIEND: harder! harder oh harder!

BOYFRIEND: ::PUNCH:: argh! ::PUNCH::

SHELTER: ::BANG.BANG.BANG::

i'm not making this up, if you had your eyes closed it would probably sound like porn!

i'm already in a bad mood (my timesheet wasn't picked up and i won't get paid on time, reports kept being pushed around back and forth, and i have a bunch of demo programs i have to review) so i turn around and glare at him, snapping "oh my god, what the fuck is your problem?"

- and he gets offended and starts cussing at me. i wanted to swing my laptop bag at his face but had to retrain myself ... his empty head could have hurt my laptop. so i waited for the bus to come and told the driver and the a-hole follows and starts saying that i'm hitting on him! WTF? though the bus driver wasn't buying it and told the guy to get the fuck off and then some nobody from outside overhears and starts shouting at the driver.

ATTENTION ALL IDIOTS: for the sake of world peace, please stand in FRONT of the bus when you feel the need to share your lack of common sense.

Well I'm going back to work on Tueday and the manga I ordered from DADvd finally came in! So Leizel is very pleased with everything, except dinner:

High in calories, but I didn't eat much today except for a couple bottles of water and toast. The chicken and potatoes were okay but it was kind of sick how the corn was embedded in the brownie portion... I guess you really have to be a HUNGRY MAN to still eat it.

technoman!

Bought the boxset for like $15 at FRYs - and wow, it's 1994 all over again!!! Also, Teknoman = Techno music, because there's a lot of it and it really cuts down all the angsty scenes (Though I'm surprised that that they almost didn't edit anything - even Miyuki's execution but it was too violent for her to punch Aki in the gut?) but ah well, what would truly make me relive the 90s over again is if I had to post this on dial-up.

It would be a great deal if they would actually send you your order

Almost a month ago I took advantage of Discountanimedvd.com's manga sale (as I often do because it's cheap new manga even with sales tax and shipping compared to retail book stores). One of the books was a pre-order and would be in stock at the end of the month. So I waited a couple weeks, and then waited some more since the arrival was delayed. After more waiting, I gave up (Amazon was already selling USED copies of this book) and purchased the book at Borders since they send me coupons via email - and asked DADvd to exchange the book with another title. The replacement was back-ordered but it was added on anyway - and because DADvd won't ship partial orders - my whole order was delayed again.

I emailed DADvd again to find out when they would be in... and their automated response was : "we don't know, you can exchange it or get a refund. It MIGHT come in within two weeks..." so I asked them to change it, and yeap more back--order problems.

What's a pain in the @$$ is that they know I want to replace a back-order item for one that is in stock, but if the replacement is out of stock - they'll just add it on. So I had to fill out another ticket to get it off so I could find a replacement and get my order. Another backorder. Another ticket filed. Another backorder.... and again... and again. I was about to give up and demand a refund, but another sale came around and so I was able to get more for my money and hey what do you know, the replacements were in stock ... until I saw that they removed the books I originally purchased (and PAID for) that have been in stock the entire time from my order without my consent. Ummm WTF?!
Finally got around to see it - and well...

It's freaking awesome! Even for a movie sized filler episode. I thought it was way better than 'Memories of Nobody' and almost everyone went Bankai, even Ikkaku (but keep that a secret) and I guess mostly everyone knows about Ichigo's hollow mask now.

watch it here: http://media.imeem.com/pl/7_Ewty052a/aus=false/pv=2/

na na na na batman!

Finally got to see the Dark Knight - which I knew would be awesome - but I didn't think the Joker would suddenly be my all time favorite Batman movie villain though Liam Neeson as Ducard from Batman Begins is a close second. The Joker was deranged, creepy, and still hysterical to watch (see the famous pencil trick).

The rest of the characters like Alfred, Fox, Gordon, Harvey Dent were great and I even liked the new actress for Rachael so much more than Katie Holmes (was there actually a movie she was good in?). The only real problem in the movie was Batman himself. His low and raspy voice just got on nerves every time he spoke in the movie:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2yv8aT0UFc

Also, there was tons of action fight scenes and chase scenes, mass mayhem, and lots of death (mostly handed out by the Joker), that I couldn't even leave my seat to use the restroom because I was afraid I'd miss something vital.

So far, The Dark Knight makes favorite movie of the year - the next runner up is Iron Man and then Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - I'm still going to go see Stephenie Meyer's Twilight
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBvOhfL4mYw - but I've read all the books and no way will it touch Batman.

Look an update... but not really

I need to take another PHP class ... my memory is all fuzzy since I haven't updated coding my site. It took three days to figure out why my code wasn't working. So, look old content on a new page:

http://surreal-indulgence.net/avatars.php

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Took my mom to go see it today since we're both huge fans of the original trilogy (The Last Crusade was my favorite), so did the new movie meet my expectations?

Strangely yes, eventhough Indy is now in his late 50's and I didn't think he could still pull it off. There are ties with the previous movies, especially to Raiders of the Lost Ark where Marrion returns (Indy's first love interest) and reveals that Mutt (Shia LaBeouf) the greaser side-kick, is actually his son! My mom figured it out the moment Marrion was revealed. Also when the Soviets leave the military base, one of the crates is smashed open and I believe we see part of the Ark of the Covenant (which was stored away at the end of Raiders).

In the fourth movie, Indy reveals that both Marcus and his dad (Sean Connery as Jones Sr, featured in the Last Crusade) have already died ...which kind of doesn't make sense since both father and son drank from the Holy Grail... and therefore, are immortal.

Like all the Indiana Jones movies there are always a scenes that just makes me squeamish. In Raiders, it was the snake pit. In the Temple of Doom, pretty much everything... the monkey brains probbaly the worst. In The Last Crusade it was the rats. But in the fourth movie, it's the flesh eating ants ::shudder::

The plot: Indiana Jones meets The X-Files... cause it turns out aliens did come to earth long ago and were like gods to the humans who worshipped them. So the crystal skull, is actually an alien skull. And when the thirteenth member's skull is returned, they merge together and the UFO takes off. Indy and company make it back to the USA, where he gets married to Marrion.

At the end of the wedding, a gust of wind causes the famous Indiana Jones' hat to roll over to Mutt, who i about to put it on ... but it's snatched away by Indy, cause it's not ready for Mutt's greaser head until he finishes college... or at least Transformers 2.
I plead insanity your honor...

From the: Drabble-Matic

An Obessesive Day To Fart

D-Boy stepped grumpy out into the awkward sunshine, and admired Aki's buttocks. "Ah," he sighed, "That's a modest sight."

Aki climbed off the boots and walked blindly across the grass to greet her lover. D-Boy patted Aki on the neck and then tried to fart her perky, but without success.

"That's all right," Aki said. "We can try again later."

"I'm just not perverted," D-Boy. "Not as perverted as the time we farted to the moon."

Aki nodded swiftly. "We were emo back in those days."

"Our arms were younger, and we had a lot more fun with them," D-Boy said. "Everything seems abrupt and introverted when you're young."

"Of course," Aki said. "But now we're attractive, we can still have fun. If we go about it huskily."

"Huskily?" D-Boy said . "But how?"

"With this," Aki said and held out an iridescent uniform. "Just take that with some water and in half an hour, you'll be ready to fart."

D-Boy swallowed the uniform at once and sure enough, in half an hour, they were able to fart huskily. They farted like a rainbow that casts a happy glow o'er all the land. Three times.

And then the neighbour told them to get off his lawn.

Another nerd update

Well it's been 2 days and Crisis Core has pretty much held my life hostage. I started on this weekend and I'm at lvl 40 - and raised my stats to HP 9999 and SP,MP,AP 999 ... I don't think I can go higher since I have HP+400% materia ... the moogle summon reaaaaaaaally like me ^_^

The game has it's challenging moments (no phoenix downs and monsters that cast instant death) but it's been rather easy without a world map to get lost in. Seriously, after beating KH 1+2, FF7, Ergheiz(sp?) - CC had the easiest Sephiroth battle ever - didn't even have to heal and with barrier on his attacks were weak and I killed him before he could do his heartless angel cheat attack.

God, this game is such a train wreck - ya know what's going to happen to our protagonist and yet you still hope all will turn out for the best like FF7 for the PS1 was never released.

After two years of neglect I'm starting to work on my own domain - and maybe make it a place visitors might take interest in. Maybe. Or I could finally open Crisis Core that's been sitting on my desk collecting dust.

Naruto fillers ... again

Took time off to catch up with Naruto Shippuuden and was horribly disappointed to learn that episode 54 - although is written in the manga - is the prequel for yet another filler arc. I mean the manga is way ahead now, why do they need to resort to more fillers? Ugh

http://liveanime.net/index.php?ID=5&show=7991

[Fic] Twisted Petals - Prologue

Wow, it's been a long, long, looooong time since I started writing fan fiction, but thought I'd brush up. Anyone reading this, please review!

Title: Twisted Petals
Author: Leizel Ann
Fandon: Tekkkaman Blade
Rating: PG-13 (rating goes high up in following chapters)
Summary: What if Rapier, not Blade had been freed and was sent to Earth?

What was the point of a flower's existence? They were weak and fragile. They practically fell apart over the slightest caress of wind. When she fell - quite literally - from grace, the girl formerly known as Miyuki Aiba, discovered that Amaryllis disgusted her to no end.
Being reborn as Tekkaman Rapier had been a blessing, a second chance at life that she had yearned for. No longer would Miyuki be the pretty yet pointless little flower surrounded in the thorns that made up her family. The men in her life, the image of her mother, would no longer continue to stunt her growth.

"No more," came a hiss that was so inhuman that she couldn't believe came from her throat.

Not quite crimson eyes looked down towards her destination, the very planet her weak human body was born on. Just the thought of her old and wasted life, caused her to pick up the pace. The scenery around her blurred as her alien armored form became a streak of light that decimated her foes as she flew through them head on.

The spider crab numbers could be intimidating the humans, but that was why she was here fighting and not them. She was given the chance to train in the style of combat that was once denied to her. To Tekkaman Rapier, they were nothing. Big on size and low on intelligence, Radam grunts waiting to be squashed under her heal. She would prove to the world and to her former Radam family, that she was not a weak flower or a peon foot-soldier, but a force to be reckoned with.

'My how arrogant,' commented a male voice within Rapier's mind that never failed to grate on her nerves. 'Not even finished with Orbital Ring clean up duty that you are already lost in your day dreams like a little girl. Oh my mistake! You are a little girl.'

Rapier had to resist pummeling her own head and decided to vent out on the unfortunate alien monsters in her path.

"Shut it, Terzo!" she snapped, "I told you not to bug me when I'm in battle. You'll get us killed!"

'Correction, my dear: you will get us killed, if you loose focus out here. Besides, I believe you are done.'

True enough, she was. Rapier had massacred the entire swarm closest to Earth, and so her objective was completed for the day. In case of an ambush, she kept her sword unsheathed and ready while heading towards the ship that had been waiting for her. When the hatch opened, she hesitated on entering and it felt as if her body moved against her will to turn around.

Facing the moon, her glowing eyes narrowed in longing and determination. It was a strong will alone that kept the female Tekkaman from shooting off in the opposite direction. The dark side of the moon always seemed to call out and taunt her with its existence.

'We should go, Tekkaman Rapier,' Terzo urged after sensing her feelings. 'You have been fighting for long periods of time today. Your body needs food and rest.'

Leave it to an alien parasite to know what her body better than she did as fatigue finally began to set in. With that she turned back and entered the ship, and as the door slowly close shut behind her, Rapier turned around once more. The moon, it was so close and yet so far away.

"Someday, Terzo..." she didn't finish, but the parasite understood. Someday, this human born creature, this collection of twisted petals of a once pure flower, would destroy the thorns that scarred her past and Earth's future.
