Hello hello hello.

It's been awhile, and I know that.

And you know that.

In all honesty, I miss you guys.

Where have I been? Where have you been? Well, I'm sure we were both in a lot of places.

We all know it's been a rough and long year. For me it was in some ways triumphant and in other ways depressing, but overall I think it's been good. For TG? Well, we struggled, but we stayed in the game. The next moves are big ones, but we're into it, because we love this stuff. Extremity as cultural import.

On the personal side, I moved to San Francisco a year and a half ago to get into working with computers. For a very long time, I didn't know if it was the right choice... especially considering the financial situation and the economy. I mean, come on, showing up in a new city, in a new state, and starting a new career in a new field during the worst economy since the great depression? Surely I had to be nuts.

(Shhh... don't tell anybody)

But things have worked out and I've really come to like my new line of work, although I really miss doing Tokyogetter work on the daily. Making the orders, talking to people, going to events, wrapping stuff up, shipping it out, getting the emails back from excited people, all of it. It was a fun and incredibly wild ride for me.

The business continues, of course, with my good friend Mike doing the fulfilment and handling the orders in Tokyo. I'm still consulting and doing work for both TG, my day job, and intermixi.com. In the meantime, I moved to the city proper, fell in and out with a girl, headed to Japan again for girlgamer.com, took a gang of complex computer tests, worked for several banks, and started working on my big career goals for my "five year plan."

Is Japan involved? Maybe. Is TG involved? Definitely. :)

I know I'm rambling here... but I'm travel-shot from hours and hours of Southwest airlines sardine action and I'm home for the first Christmas I've been to in 3 years and man... it's strange. I just feel sentimental and odd and I'm thinking back on the good times, and a lot of you were a part of it.

And for that I thank you.

Wow it's been a long time since I last updated. Sorry for having disappeared for a while. I still read the updates in here but have not been posting or commenting much. As I have recently mentioned on my food blog, I pretty much went 'off' food for the past few months while dealing with morning (read: all-day-and-night) sickness and the exhaustion typical of early pregnancy. I did very little cooking and not many bento lunches were packed. Even when I did pack lunches, they were not very inspired and I did not bother taking any photos. I am feeling much better now halfway through my pregnancy (I am due at the end of April 2010) and it's been really good to get back to cooking and bento again. Here are a couple of them that made it to photos:

Chicken rice, cucumber slices, steamed chicken breast, char siew (Chinese bbq pork) and kai lan in oyster sauce.


Tuna pasta salad with sundried tomatoes, sliced red peppers and hummus


I am looking forward to getting back to more regular bento-making in the new year. I know that most people are probaly busy with holiday festivities now. I wanted another festive-themed bento, but several timing- and cooking-related disasters later it's just a random veggie bento. Oh well, as long as it's pretty and tasty...!

Small box (background): couscous, carrot shaves and halloumi on lettuce, cherry tomatoes.
Big box(foreground): More halloumi, Ajvar, cherry tomatoes, fried zucchini chips, baked potato wedges, and a piece of Knäck.
